WASHINGTON – Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa has been named a “Defender of Children” by the First Focus Campaign for Children, a well-respected, national bipartisan advocacy group, for leadership on children’s issues during the current congressional session.

“I appreciate the work of the First Focus Campaign for Children,” Grassley said.  “This organization advocates for children in a high-profile way and behind the scenes, too.  I’m grateful for the recognition.”

Bruce Lesley, president of the Campaign for Children, said, “Lots of politicians talk about kids’ issues, but few back it up.  Champions and Defenders delivered for kids.”

Grassley is a long-time legislative sponsor and advocate for policies that promote adoption, better foster care services, and policies such as better child support enforcement.  This week, the President signed into law legislation Grassley helped to write to strengthen sibling relationships in foster care and improve child support enforcement, among other pro-children policies.

Grassley is the co-founder and co-chairman of the Senate Caucus on Foster Youth, with a special focus on helping the 26,000 youth who age out of the system every year with few resources at their disposal.
