BUTLER COUNTY, IOWA – U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) is the most bipartisan Republican in the U.S. Senate, according to an independent study by the nonpartisan project Bridge Grades. Grassley earned a score of 96.9 out of 100 in the report, ranking fourth overall among all 100 senators.
“At my annual 99 county meetings, Iowans ask me why Democrats and Republicans can’t get along. I tell them bipartisanship is happening in Washington, but it doesn’t always get reported in the news media. In the U.S. Senate, most bills need 60 votes to advance, which means successful legislation must be bipartisan. I’ll work with anyone to get things done for Iowa, from lowering prescription drug costs to boosting E15. I’m honored to be recognized for building effective partnerships with my colleagues across the aisle, and you can bet I’ll keep working with any of my fellow senators to make life better and more affordable for Iowans,” Grassley said.
“On behalf of constituents in Iowa who value representatives who govern with more collaboration and bipartisanship than their peers, we congratulate Sen. Grassley on being an A-rated bridge builder and encourage him to keep up the good grades,” said Brad Porteus, Founder of Bridge Grades.

Bridge Grades’ report uses objective third party data sources to measure whether members of Congress govern collaboratively or divisively. Grassley’s score can be found HERE, and the full U.S. Senate Bridge Grades rankings for the 119th Congress can be found HERE.
In its most recent study, the nonpartisan Georgetown University’s Lugar Center ranked Grassley tenth on its Bipartisan Index of all 100 senators, making him the fourth most bipartisan Senate Republican. The Lugar Bipartisan Index also ranked Grassley as the second-most bipartisan member among long-serving senators, behind only U.S. Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine). In a lifetime score of all senators spanning 1993 through 2018, Grassley was the 14th most bipartisan senator of the 250 who served over those years.
Grassley also was ranked within the top ten most effective senators in the 117th Congress by the University of Virginia’s and Vanderbilt University’s Center for Effective Lawmaking.
