Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa today cited two new internal audits of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) which reveal unlawful use of quotas and examination statistics in every IRS district, as well as inappropriate siezure of taxpayer property, as proof positive that comprehensive reform of the tax collecting agency is greatly needed and long overdue.
"These findings are a troubling reminder that the the tax-collecting agency unlawfully bullies many American citizens. The Senate's approval of IRS reform yesterday comes not a moment too soon. The latest internal audits of the IRS prove that the agency has continued to ignore the rights of Americans, despite legal protections for taxpayers. As a member of the IRS oversight committee, I will continue to hold the IRS accountable for violations of taxpayers' rights."
