RE: Grassley Schedule
DA: Monday, May 13, 2013
Here is information about Senator Grassley’s schedule this week. The Senate is in session.
Senator Grassley is scheduled to meet with Iowans in Washington for the Iowa Farm Bureau, the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the Iowa Dental Association, Fort Des Moines, the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines, Junior League, the National Electrical Contractors Association, Iowa REALTORS, US Bank, the Iowa Academy of Family Physicians, the University of Northern Iowa, the Iowa Insurance Commissioner, the Vinyl Institute, the American Wholesale Marketers Association, and the Society of Hospital Medicine.
Senator Grassley will meet with Iowa families visiting Washington from Des Moines, Shell Rock, and Granville.
Senator Grassley will be a guest on the public affairs program hosted by Sally Hart on KCII Radio in Washington, Cindy Kohlmann on KDTH Radio in Dubuque, Ryan Schlader on WMT Radio in Cedar Rapids, and Captain Steve and Tommy Lang on KCJJ Radio in Iowa City.
On Monday, May 13, at 12:45 p.m. (ET), Senator Grassley will answer questions via Skype from students at Sioux Central High School.
On Tuesday, May 14, at 10 a.m. (ET), Senator Grassley will participate in a Senate Agriculture Committee business meeting to act on the Agriculture Reform, Food and Jobs Act of 2013, the farm bill. Senator Grassley’s reform initiative to limit farm program payments to small- and mid-size farmers is part of the legislative package presented by the committee chairman for consideration. Senator Grassley has been working with senators on the committee and advocating for the crop insurance program to encourage risk management. Senator Grassley also has filed an amendment to limit the ability of the Environmental Protection Agency to release private information about livestock producers, in response to the federal agency’s recent release of personal information to activist organizations. Senator Grassley’s amendment would not impact states and it would continue to allow transparency at the federal level of livestock information in the aggregate.
On Tuesday, May 14, at 10 a.m. (ET), Senator Grassley will participate in continued Senate Judiciary Committee action on the Border Security, Economic Opportunity and Immigration Modernization Act, the immigration reform bill proposed by a group of eight senators. Last week, a Grassley-sponsored amendment would have required that the U.S. border be secure before undocumented immigrants are legalized. Senator Grassley will continue offering amendments during committee action this week to try to improve the extensive legislative proposal and strengthen enforcement of current law.
On Wednesday, May 15, at 8 a.m. (ET), Senator Grassley will participate in the ACLI Capital Challenge. This three-mile team race is an invitational race for teams representing the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of the federal government and the media covering Washington.
On Wednesday, May 15, at 10 a.m. (ET), the Senate Finance Committee will hold a member meeting about Tax Reform Options.
