Here is information about Senator Grassley’s schedule this week.  The Senate is in session.


Senator Grassley will meet with Iowans in Washington with the National Association for College Admission Counseling, Easter Seals, the University of Iowa Executive Council of Graduate and Professional Students, the Iowa Association of Counties, the School Nutrition Association of Iowa, the Iowa chapter of Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Iowa Alliance of YMCAs, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the Iowa Finance Authority, the Arthritis Foundation, the Iowa Department of Education, the National Court Reporters Association, student government leaders from Iowa State University, Paralyzed Veterans of America, the Iowa Broadcasters Association, National Structured Settlement Trade Association, the Iowa Funeral Directors Association, the World Food Prize, the Iowa Community Action Association, the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges, the Iowa Chiropractic Society, and the American Association of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation.


Senator Grassley will meet with Iowa families visiting Washington from Indianola, Council Bluffs, and West Des Moines.  He also will meet with a student from Central Clay High School in Everly who won a scholarship from the Iowa State Bar Association to visit Washington, D.C., as part of the Close Up program.


Senator Grassley will be a guest this week on public affairs radio programs hosted by Bryan Nichols and Sean Seacrase of WTAD Radio in Quincy and Sam Clovis of KSCJ Radio in Sioux City.


On Tuesday, March 5, at 10:30 a.m. (ET), Senator Grassley will participate in a Budget Committee hearing titled “Reducing the Deficit by Eliminating Wasteful Spending in the Tax Code.”


On Wednesday, March 6, at 9:30 a.m. (ET), Senator Grassley will participate in a Judiciary Committee hearing titled “Oversight of the U.S. Department of Justice.”  Attorney General Eric Holder Jr. will testify.  Senator Grassley is Ranking Member of the Judiciary Committee.


On Wednesday, March 6, at 5 p.m. (ET), Senator Grassley will meet with civic leaders from Dubuque who have traveled to Washington to discuss and address economic development initiatives and issues.


On Thursday, March 7, at 10 a.m. (ET), Senator Grassley will participate in the weekly executive business meeting of the Judiciary Committee.  The committee may act on the nominations of Sheri Polster Chappell to be United States District Judge for the Middle District of Florida, Kenneth John Gonzales to be United States District Judge for the District of New Mexico, Michael J. McShane to be United States District Judge for the District of Oregon, Nitza I. Quinones Alejandro to be United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, Luis Felipe Restrepo to be United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, and Jeffrey L. Schmehl to be United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.  The committee also is scheduled to consider the Assault Weapons Ban of 2013 (S.150) sponsored by Senator Dianne Feinstein of California, the Stop Illegal Trafficking in Firearms Act of 2013 (S.54) sponsored by Senator Patrick Leahy of Vermont and Chairman of the Committee, the Protecting Responsible Gun Sellers Act of 2013 (S.374) sponsored by Senator Chuck Schumer of New York, and the School Safety Enhancements Act of 2013 (S.146) sponsored by Senator Barbara Boxer of California.


On Saturday, March 9, from 5 to 6 p.m. (CT), Senator Grassley will hold a town meeting in Charles City.  The meeting will be in the Zastrow River Room of the Charles City Library at 106 Milwaukee Mall.  That evening, from 7:15 to 8:15 (CT), Senator Grassley will attend and speak at the American Legion Birthday Ball at 412 South Center Street in St. Ansgar.
