From 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., Grassley will meet with students at Abraham Lincoln High School. Grassley will discuss how he became interested in public service and the importance of being involved in the process of representative government. Grassley will also participate in a question and answer session with students. Following the open forum with students, Grassley will be available on site to answer questions from the media for fifteen minutes.
At 10:30 a.m., Grassley and Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison will host a press conference at the home of Drew and Kris Ranney to discuss the Homemaker IRA. Hutchison won passage of the Homemaker IRA in 1996 as part of the Small Business Job Protection Act. The legislation allows a one-income married couple to contribute as much as $4,000 per year to a tax-deductible individual retirement account. Previously, a one-income couple could only contribute $2,250 per year ? $2,000 for the spouse working outside of the home and $250 for the individual working in the home. Grassley was an original co-sponsor of the legislation to create the Homemaker IRA. Drew and Kris Ranney live at 2246 Highway 191.
