Grassley: Senate Committee Approves Charles Beach for U.S. Marshal

? The Senate Judiciary Committee has approved the nomination of Charles Beach, of Des Moines, to serve as U.S. Marshal in Iowa's southern district, said Sen. Chuck Grassley Wednesday. The nomination now must be considered by the full Senate.

"Charles Beach has more than 25 years of law enforcement experience and is well-qualified to serve as U.S. Marshal," Grassley said. "As a special agent with the Secret Service, he conducted hundreds of criminal investigations and oversaw security for U.S. and foreign dignitaries traveling in Iowa."

Beach was a special agent with the U.S. Secret Service from 1973 to 1999. He has been a contract employee with the Secret Service since then. Beach holds a bachelor's degree from American University.

U.S. Marshals provide protection for federal judges, investigate federal fugitives, transport federal prisoners and protect federal witnesses. Iowa's southern district is based in Des Moines.
