Grassley Statement on the Nomination of James Comey to be Director of the FBI

Senator Chuck Grassley, Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, made the following comment after press reports say that James Comey will be nominated to be the next Director of the FBI.  The Judiciary Committee has jurisdiction over the FBI.

“Director Mueller’s testimony before the Judiciary Committee yesterday shows the depth and breadth of knowledge one needs to do this job. Mr. Comey’s experience on national security issues will be a benefit as the FBI continues to focus on preventing terrorism.  And, he’s previously dealt with these matters with integrity and shown a willingness to stand his ground if necessary.  I’m still interested in his recent work in the hedge fund industry. Perhaps Mr. Comey will turn around the administration’s abysmal efforts to criminally prosecute Wall Street for its part in the economic downturn.  I look forward to hearing more from him during the confirmation process.”
