Senator Chuck Grassley, Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, made the following statement regarding the resignation of United States Secret Service Director Julia Pierson.
“Over the last several years, we’ve seen the sterling reputation of the Secret Service shattered by missteps around the world and here at home. When Director Pierson stepped into this leadership role, we all knew things had to change. Unfortunately, the recent failures have undermined public confidence in the safety of the President and his family. This is unacceptable. Director Pierson’s willingness to step aside should help restore focus on ensuring that the agency can fulfill its core mission again and regain the trust of the American people. No internal Department of Homeland Security review should prevent a full and independent investigation.”
