WASHINGTON – Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa today issued the following statement regarding President Donald Trump’s infrastructure plan.
“President Trump was right in his State of the Union Address to call on Congress to find creative solutions to upgrade the nation’s infrastructure. Nearly everyone agrees we’ve got to rebuild our roads, bridges and waterways. For the United States to stay ahead in the 21st century, the nation needs infrastructure that can compete. In addition to transporting goods domestically, U.S. industry and agriculture depend on functioning infrastructure to export products abroad. These projects are vital to the health and economy of communities in Iowa and across the country. I’m in the process of evaluating what is included in this proposal and how it would affect Iowa. I’m particularly interested in how it will be funded. I’ll continue to work with my colleagues to advance the needs of Iowa in any infrastructure-related legislation. ”
Grassley has long advocated for the need to rebuild the nation’s infrastructure, citing the importance of functioning roads, bridges and waterways in facilitating trade. In January, Grassley and a bipartisan group of his Senate colleagues called on the Trump administration to prioritize river system infrastructure critical to Iowa industry and agriculture.
