Grassley's monthly, viewer call-in program gives Iowans the opportunity to express opinions and ask questions on any issue to Iowa's senior senator. This month, "Ask Your Senator: A Live Town Meeting" will be broadcast from Washington, DC.
To participate in the program, Iowans should call 800/736-8255. Or, Iowans may send an e-mail in advance to AskYourSenator@saa.senate.gov.
Since January's show, Grassley has announced plans for a series of community events designed to alert Iowans and encourage their participation in Census 2000. "Getting the word out will help Iowa avoid getting shortchanged over the course of the next 10 years," he said.
"Iowans may not realize what's at stake when they receive their Census 2000 form in the mail," said Grassley. "Undercounts put community resources, especially school funding, at risk. You can protect yourself and your children from getting shortchanged by taking a short amount of time to complete and mail back your family's survey."
Grassley's events will coincide with the Census Bureau's mass mailing to Iowa households in mid-March. A complete schedule of his community census events will be available in the coming weeks.
In addition, this week Grassley will meet with Iowans in four communities to get a clearer picture of where they want their tax dollars spent in the 2001 federal budget. He will attend events in Algona, Spencer, Onawa and Marshalltown. At each event Iowans will have the opportunity to fill out a form called "Priority Check - Where do you want your tax dollars to go?"
"In a few week, the congressional committees will start hammering out a budget compromise and I want to know what Iowans think we should do with their tax dollars - be it save it, spend it or give it back," said Grassley.
