Grassley Urges Iowans to Help America's Fund for Afghan Children

President Bush Establishes Effort

? Sen. Chuck Grassley today urged Iowa children and families to help the newly created America's Fund for Afghan Children. President George W. Bush last night announced the program and asked every child in America to earn or give $1 to help provide food and medical help to Afghan children.

"I encourage all Iowa children and families to think about what they can do to help the children who are suffering in Afghanistan. Iowans have already shown a great deal of generosity to the American people who have been devastated by the terrorist attacks of Sept.11. This is our chance to show our children what it truly means to give and help others. I have great confidence that we will show the world the greatness of the people of Iowa and America," Grassley said.

Grassley said the new program is modeled after President Franklin Roosevelt's March of Dimes campaign of 1938 to help eradicate polio. The initiative not only helped raise money toward the eradication of polio, but helped create interest among American youth for helping others in need.

Iowans can send donations to a special zip code at the White House that identifies and expedites donations to the new initiative. The White House will send the contributions to the American Red Cross which will administer the program. The address to send donations is following:
