On Thursday, May 28, Grassley will visit Chariton High School for an open forum. He will meet with students from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. The school is located at Grand and Osage streets in Chariton. From 9:30 to 9:45 a.m., Grassley will be available on site to answer questions from the media.
Grassley's next stop of the day will take place when he tours the new Eva Rees Physician Clinic at the Wayne County Hospital in Corydon. He will tour the facility from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. Following the tour, Grassley will be available to answer questions from the media for 15 minutes.
Following his visit to the Wayne County Hospital, Grassley will travel to Centervillewhere he will meet with board members and farmers from Chariton Valley Resource Conservation and Development. They will discuss their efforts to raise and develop switch grass as a renewable fuel crop. The meeting will take place at the Chariton Valley Resource Conservation and Development office. This meeting is closed to the public. Grassley will be available for media questions from 1:15 to 1:30 p.m.
At 2:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 28, Grassley will meet with the Davis County Development Corporation in Bloomfield. The hour-long meeting will take place at 101 East Franklin. From 3:15 to 3:30 p.m., Grassley will be available on site to answer questions from the media.
Grassley will then travel to Keosauqua for a town meeting. The meeting will begin at 4:15 p.m. at the Hotel Manning, located at 100 Van Buren Street. The meeting will last for one hour, and Grassley will again be available to answer questions from the media for 15 minutes following the meeting.
On Friday, May 29, Grassley will begin his day with a breakfast meeting with the Monroe County Farm Bureau. The breakfast meeting will take place at the White Buffalo Restaurant in Albia from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. Grassley will answer questions from the media from 7:30 to 7:45 a.m.
At 8:45 a.m. on Friday morning, Grassley will tour Musco Lighting in Oskaloosa. The tour will last until 10:00 a.m. From 10:00 to 10:15 a.m., Grassley will be available on site to answer question from the media.
For his next meeting on Friday, Grassley will meet with senior citizens at the Richland congregate meal site. The lunch will take place at the Richland Community Building. The Richland congregate meal site receives funding from the Older Americans Act. Grassley will have lunch with local residents from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Once again, Grassley will be available to answer questions from members of the media from 12:30 to 12:45 p.m.
Grassley's next stop on the 29th will take place when he visits Washington County to view areas damaged by the massive tornado which ripped through eastern Iowa on Friday, May 15. Grassley will meet Mayor Ed Brown at 1:30 p.m. at the Public Safety Center in Washington, located at 221 West Second Street. He will tour the sites until approximately 3:00 p.m.
At 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 29, Grassley will be at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Iowa City to present a Purple Heart Award to Orville Korthaus of Maquoketa. The presentation ceremony will take place in the hospital chapel and is open to the media. Korthaus never received his medal from the Department of the Army after being wounded by shrapnel in Germany on August 1, 1945. Following the presentation, Grassley will tour the hospital facilities.
