Grassley visits Des Moines area Friday


 In recognition of his commitment to public transit, Sen. Chuck Grassley will receive an award from the Iowa Public Transit Authority during a statewide meeting on Friday, November 21, at 8:00 a.m., at the University Park Holiday Inn, in West Des Moines.<P>The Iowa Public Transit Association (IPTA) is honoring Grassley for his years of service to public transit in the state of Iowa. Over the years, Grassley has helped secure funding for a pilot program utilizing global positioning systems (GPS) on urban and rural buses. GPS is used to increase safety by maintaining constant location information for buses. In addition, Grassley has supported legislation to allow employers to increase tax-free mass transit benefits from $65 to $100 per month<P>Following the IPTA award presentation, Grassley will attend the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Investor's Town Meeting, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., at the Embassy Suites, 101 E. Locust Street, in downtown Des Moines. The hosts of the meeting include Arthur Levitt, Chairman of the SEC, Craig Goettsch, Superintendent of the Iowa Securities Bureau, and Rep. Greg Ganske. The purpose of the town meeting is to convey information to investors on how to make informed investment decisions, monitor their current investments and avoid investment problems.
