Here is information about Senator Grassley’s schedule this week.  The Senate is in session.  
 
Senator Grassley will meet with Iowans in Washington, D.C., from the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, Iowa’s Juvenile Justice Advisory Council, the Competitive Carriers Association, the National Association of Truck Stop Operators, the National Patient Advocacy Foundation, the Iowa Bankers Association, and the Automotive Recyclers Association.
 
Senator Grassley will meet with civic leaders from the Carroll Area Development Corporation and the Ames Chamber of Commerce.

Senator Grassley will meet with Iowa families from Parkersburg, Ankeny, Sioux City, Humboldt, Grimes, Ames, Doon, Cedar Falls, West Des Moines, and Centerville.

Senator Grassley will meet with Iowa students from West Lyon High School, Carlisle Middle School, the National Youth Leadership Conference, the Rural Electric Cooperatives’ Youth Tour, and Iowa FFA and the East Sac County High School FFA.  
 
Senator Grassley will be a guest on public affairs programs hosted by Cindy Kohlmann on KDTH in Dubuque, Sally Hart on KCII in Washington, Theresa Rose on KILJ in Mt. Pleasant, Mike Adams on AgriTalk, and Bryan Nichols and Sean Secrease on WTAD in Quincy.

On Monday, June 16, at 3:30 p.m. (ET), Senator Grassley will speak and participate in a Senate Caucus on Foster Youth and Financial and Economic Literacy Caucus Roundtable Discussion on Financial Literacy for Foster Youth.  This joint caucus event will feature foster youth who will share their experiences as well as child welfare advocates and leaders from the financial services industry.  Eddye Vanderkwaak of Ankeny, Iowa, Jim Casey Young Fellow, will speak to issues facing foster youth, highlighting what worked and didn’t work for her while in foster care, and what could be done to improve financial literacy for her peers.  Grassley is founder and co-chairman of the Senate Caucus on Foster Youth, which has a special focus on drawing on experiences from foster youth to improve the system.

On Tuesday, June 17, at 10 a.m. (ET), Senator Grassley will participate in an Agriculture Committee hearing on “Grow it Here, Make it Here: Creating Jobs Through Bio-Based Manufacturing.”

On Tuesday, June 17, at 3:00 p.m. (ET), Senator Grassley will meet with the Iowa Jefferson Award winner, Jeremiah Anthony, of Iowa City.  Anthony was nominated by KCRG-TV9 and the Cedar Rapids Gazette for his work to combat cyber-bullying at his high school through social media. On Wednesday, June 18, at 10 a.m. (ET), Senator Grassley will participate in Finance Committee executive session to consider favorably reporting the nominations of Henry J. Aaron of the District of Columbia to be a member of the Social Security Advisory Board for a term expiring September 30, 2014, and for a term expiring September 30, 2020 (reappointment); Lanhee J. Chen of California to be a member of the Social Security Advisory Board for a term expiring September 30, 2018; and Alan L. Cohen of Virginia to be a member of the Social Security Advisory Board for a term expiring September 30, 2016.

On Thursday, June 19, at 9:30 a.m. (ET), Senator Grassley will participate in the weekly executive business meeting of the Senate Judiciary Committee.  The committee may consider the nominations of Jill A. Pryor to be United States Circuit Judge for the Eleventh Circuit, Julie E. Carnes to be United States Circuit Judge for the Eleventh Circuit, Andre Birotte Jr. to be United States District Judge for the Central District of California, John W. deGravelles to be United States District Judge for the Middle District of Louisiana, Randolph D. Moss to be United States District Judge for the District of Columbia, Robin L. Rosenberg to be United States District Judge for the Southern District of Florida, Ronnie L. White to be United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Missouri, Nancy B. Firestone to be a Judge of the United States Court of Federal Claims, Thomas L. On Thursday, June 19, at 3:45 p.m. (ET), Senator Grassley will meet with Susanna Schriever of Rock Rapids, who is receiving the Congressional Award Gold Medal.  According to http://www.congressionalaward.org/about.php, “The Congressional Award is the United States Congress' award for young Americans. It is non-partisan, voluntary, and non-competitive.  The program is open to all 14- to 23-year-olds.  Participants earn Bronze, Silver and Gold Congressional Award Certificates and Bronze, Silver and Gold Congressional Award Medals.  Each level involves setting goals in four program areas; Volunteer Public Service, Personal Development, Physical Fitness, and Expedition/Exploration.”  To receive this award, Schriever volunteered over 400 hours at a nursing home, learned to play the guitar, competed in a sprint triathlon, and traveled to the Bighorn National Forest in Wyoming where she completed a five-night backpacking trip and climbed Cloud Peak.  Last year, Schriever received the Silver Congressional Award.
