Grassley Works to Help Rathbun Lake

? Sen. Chuck Grassley has introduced legislation in support of the Rathbun Regional Water Association. The bill was introduced with Sen. Tom Harkin.

"I've been working with the Rathbun Regional Water Association for a long time. I want to be make sure this gets done to enhance recreation on the lake, the water supply for the region, and economic development for the Rathbun area." Grassley said.

The legislation directs the Secretary of the Army to convey the remaining water supply storage allocation in Rathbun Lake to the Rathbun Regional Water Association. In return for the water supply, the Association must: construct, operate and maintain a regional lighthouse visitors center complex on Federal lands at Rathbun Lake; Pay all operation and maintenance costs allocated to the water supply storage space; and use any complex revenues in excess of amounts required to operate and maintain or improve the complex to improve the quality of the environment in the Rathbun Lake watershed.

Grassley has been a long time advocate of the Rathbun Regional Water Association project. Grassley and Harkin introduced similar legislation in the 107th Congress.
