"Tomorrow we'll celebrate the 225th anniversary of our nation's independence. As we get together with family and friends, we honor the vision, courage and sacrifice of the men who signed our Declaration of Independence in 1776, and gave us the United States of America.
"We owe a great debt to them and to all of the Americans who followed in their footsteps to defend our freedoms and liberty, even when it meant giving their own lives. The revolutionary ideas in our Declaration of Independence changed the course of human history. Today they remain the most powerful force in the world.
"As Americans, we are all stewards of that independence. On July 4th, we have the opportunity to reflect on the responsibility we all have to protect and preserve our precious freedoms for the next generation and those that follow," Grassley said.
