More Than $1 Million to Iowa Airports

WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration has awarded five grants totaling $1,251,586 to airports in Algona, Forest City, Grinnell, Spencer and Waterloo.

“This funding is intended to increase the safety and efficiency of these airports,” Grassley said.

The funds will be distributed as follows:

• Algona Municipal Airport will receive $161,500 to rehabilitate the taxiway.

• Forest City Municipal Airport will receive $120,650 to remove obstructions in the runway approach surface.

• Grinnell Regional Airport will receive $188,100 to expand the airport ramp.

• Spencer Municipal Airport will receive $234,611 to rehabilitate runway and taxiway lighting.

• Waterloo Regional Airport will receive $546,725 to rehabilitate the airport ramp.

Each year, local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants from the federal government.  The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
