WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today said that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded six grants totaling $1,270,667 to Iowa organizations and universities.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will distribute the money as shown below.
• $132,941 to the Iowa State Department of Human Services in Des Moines from the Center for Mental Health Services for data infrastructure
• $249,799 to J and J Solutions, Inc. in Iowa City from the National Cancer Institute for cancer treatment research
• $371,377 to the University of Iowa in Iowa City from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases for allergy, immunology, and transplantation research
• $209,550 to the University of Iowa in Iowa City from the National Institute on Drug Abuse for drug abuse and addiction research programs
• $10,000 to the University of Iowa in Iowa City from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases for diabetes, endocrinology and metabolic research
• $297,000 to the Iowa CareGivers Association in West Des Moines from the Division of Grants Operations Management Operations for a service focused initiative
Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants from the federal government. The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity administering the funds.
