WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today said that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded two grants totaling $1,228,328 to the University of Iowa.
According to the Department of Health and Human Services, the university will receive $812,931 from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute to conduct research on heart and vascular diseases, and $415,397 from the National Institute on Aging to conduct a follow-up study on addictions and co-occurring disorders in older adults.
Each year, local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants from the federal government. The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity administering the funds.
