More Than $1.5 Million to Iowa

WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today said that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded two grants totaling $1,638,655 to Iowa.

According to the Department of Health and Human Services, Exemplar Genetics, LLC in Sioux Center will receive $160,566 to conduct arthritis, musculoskeletal and skin disease research, and the University of Iowa in Iowa City will receive $1,478,089 to conduct heart and vascular disease research.

These funds will be distributed by the federal agency and are not earmarks designated by Congress.

Each year, local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants from the federal government.  The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity administering the funds.
