More Than $18 Million to Iowa for Disaster Relief


WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today said that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded funding totaling $18,226,230 to Iowa.

 

The distribution information below is organized alphabetically by town:

 

• Butler County REC in Allison will receive $3,699,036 to upgrade 107.45 miles of electrical distribution lines

• Hawkeye REC in Cresco will receive $2,719,991 to upgrade 100.8 miles of electrical distribution lines

• Grundy County Electric Coop in Grundy Center will receive $2,133,675 to upgrade 98.4 miles of electrical distribution lines

• Franklin Rural Electric Coop in Hampton will receive $1,890,488 to upgrade 54 miles of electrical distribution lines

• L & O Coop in Rock Rapids will receive $5,049,570 to upgrade 35.6 miles of electrical distribution lines

• Heartland Power Coop in St. Ansgar and Thompson will receive $2,733,470 to upgrade 112 miles of electrical distributions lines

 

“These funds should help improve the safety and availability of electricity in these communities,” Grassley said.

 

FEMA obligates funding for these projects directly to the state.  It is the state's responsibility to ensure that the eligible sub-grantees receive these awards.  FEMA contributes 75 percent of the total cost of a project.  State and local entities contribute the other 25 percent.
