More Than $3 Million to Cedar Rapids for Disaster Recovery

WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley said today that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded funds totaling $3,702,655.79 to the Cedar Rapids Library through the Public Assistance Grant program.

The funds are for costs associated with repairing the damage done to the library building that resulted from the severe flooding that occurred from May 25, 2008 through August 13, 2008.

According to FEMA, Public Assistance grants help state, tribal and local governments, and private nonprofit organizations respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies by providing assistance for debris removal, emergency protective measures, and the repair, replacement, or restoration of disaster-damaged facilities

FEMA obligates funding for these projects directly to the state.  It is the state's responsibility to ensure that the eligible sub-grantees receive these awards.
