WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today said that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded funding totaling $3,135,846.17 to the Raccoon Valley Electric Cooperative.
The cooperative will use the funds to repair or replace electrical distribution systems that sustained damages as a result of a severe winter storm that occurred in January 2010.
“These funds should help improve the safety and availability of electricity in the communities served by the Raccoon Valley Electric Coop,” Grassley said.
FEMA obligates funding for these projects directly to the state. It is the state's responsibility to ensure that the eligible sub-grantees receive these awards. FEMA contributes 75 percent of the total cost of a project. State and local entities contribute the other 25 percent.
