More Than $3 Million to Iowa for Disaster Relief

WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today said that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded two grants totaling $3,713,449 to Iowa through the Hazard Mitigation Grant program.

According to FEMA, Farmer’s Electric Cooperative in Greenfield will receive $2,250,000 to retrofit 104.8 miles of electric distribution lines, and Butler County Rural Electric Cooperative in Allison will receive $1,463,449 to retrofit 12.82 miles of electric distribution lines.

“These funds should help improve the safety and availability of electricity in the communities served by these cooperatives,” Grassley said.

FEMA obligates funding for these projects directly to the state.  It is the state's responsibility to ensure that the eligible sub-grantees receive these awards.  FEMA is contributing 75 percent of the total cost of these projects.  State and local entities will contribute the remaining 25 percent.
