WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today said that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded two competitive grants totaling $338,341 to Iowa State University and Lucella Biosciences in Ames.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will distribute the money as shown below.
•$148,000 to Iowa State University from the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders to help pay for a biological research project titled, “Amygdalar Modulation of Processing in Auditory Cortex.”
•$190,341 to Lucella Biosciences from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences to help pay for a pharmacology, physiology and biological chemistry research project titled, “Solution-Phase Automated Synthesis of Oligosaccharides.”
Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants from the federal government. The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
