WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today said that Iowa State University has received a $352,267 grant from the National Science Foundation.
According to the National Science Foundation, the university will use the money to fund research related to wind turbine icing, which is the most significant threat to the integrity of wind turbines in cold weather. The study should allow researchers to produce more effective anti/de-icing methods tailored for wind turbines.
The National Science Foundation is an independent federal agency created by Congress in 1950.
Each year, local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants and loans from the federal government. The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity administering the funds.
