More Than $4 Million to Iowa Universities


WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today said that Iowa State University and the University of Iowa have received five competitive grants totaling $4,107,744 from the National Science Foundation. 

 

Iowa State University will use the funds as shown below.

 

• $3,497,471 to fund the project entitled, “Teachers Empowered to Advance Change in Mathematics (TEACH MATH): Preparing preK-8 Teachers to Connect Children's Mathematical Thinking and Community-based Funds of Knowledge.”

• $336,299 to fund the project entitled, “Fundamental limitations and complex dynamics in nonlinear network systems with uncertainty.”

• $189,974 to fund the project entitled, “Collaborative Research: Inference for Statistical Graphics.”

 

The University of Iowa will use the funds as shown below.

 

• $74,000 to fund the project entitled, “Collaborative Research: A Comparative Analysis of the Impact of Children on Parents' Well-Being.”

• $10,000 to fund student travel support for the symposium on stabilization, safety and security, held September 20-22, 2010.

 

Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants and loans from the federal government.  The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity administering the funds.
