More Than $600,000 to Iowa Airports

WASHINGTON – Chuck Grassley announced today that the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration has awarded four grants totaling $631,462

 to Iowa airports.

“This funding is intended to increase the safety and efficiency of these airports, as well as help provide important economic development opportunities in these communities,” Grassley said.

The distribution information below is organized alphabetically by town:

• Chariton Municipal Airport will receive $33,250 for an environmental assessment

• Independence Municipal Airport will receive $124,500 for snow removal equipment

• Monticello Regional Airport will receive $362,173 for terminal building construction

Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants from the federal government.  The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
