WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley said today that the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration has awarded a $65,355 grant to the Iowa Department of Transportation.
These funds will be used to support the innovative use of ultra high performance concrete on the top two inches of the deck of a bridge to be constructed on Dahlonega Road near Ottumwa.
These federal funds are distributed on a competitive basis through the Innovative Bridge Research and Deployment Program that is administered by the Federal Highway Administration. They are not earmarks determined by Congress. According to the Department of Transportation, Innovative Bridge Research and Deployment Program funds are provided for projects that demonstrate innovative accelerated bridge design and construction technology, and the application of innovative material technology in the repair, rehabilitation, replacement, or new construction of bridges and other highway structures.
