WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today said that the U.S. Department of Agriculture has awarded funding totaling $682,256.06 to Iowa through the Bioenergy Program for Advanced Biofuels.
“Biofuels are good for the environment, lessen our dependence on foreign oil, and create thousands of American jobs, many in Iowa,” Grassley said. “Projects like these help grow this important industry.”
According to the Department of Agriculture, Cargill, Inc. in Iowa Falls will receive $189,937, and Ag Processing, Inc. in Sioux City will receive $492,319.06.
According to the Department of Agriculture, the Bioenergy Program for Advanced Biofuels authorizes payments to eligible producers to expand production of advanced biofuels. Payments are based on the amount of advanced biofuels a recipient produces from renewable biomass, other than corn kernel starch, such as cellulose, crop residue, animal, food and yard waste material, biogas and vegetable oil.
Each year, local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants and loans from the federal government. The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
