More Than $8 Million to Iowa

WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded two competitive grants totaling $8,069,325 to the University of Iowa and Metabolic Technologies in Ames.

The University of Iowa received a $7,969,325 grant through the National Center for Research Resources.  The university will use the funds for a whole body 7T MRI scanner.

Metabolic Technologies received a $100,000 grant through the National Institute on Aging.  Metabolic Technologies will use the Small Business Innovation Research Grant to conduct aging research.

Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants from the federal government.  The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
