More Than $800,000 to Iowa Universities from the National Science Foundation

WASHINGTON - Senator Chuck Grassley today said that Iowa State University and the University of Iowa have received competitive grants totaling $838,018 from the National Science Foundation.

According to the National Science Foundation, Iowa State University received $520,009 to fund the project entitled, “Origin of the Electric Field-induced Strain in Lead-free Piezoelectric Ceramics,” and the University of Iowa received $318,009 to fund the project entitled, “ATD Collaborative Research: A computational analysis of multi-strain structure in genetically diverse bacterial populations in a natural host environment.”

Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants and loans from the federal government.  The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity administering the funds.
