More Support for the Sentencing Reform and Corrections Act

Feb 15, 2018
Two more senators and law enforcement group join criminal justice reform effort

WASHINGTON – In the last 24 hours, two additional cosponsors have joined the Sentencing Reform and Corrections Act of 2017, bringing the total number of cosponsors to 22. The bill will receive a vote this morning in committee. Watch the Senate Judiciary Committee’s executive business meeting here.

Senators Todd Young (R-Ind.) and Bill Nelson (D-Fla.) have signed on as cosponsors of the bill.

This morning, Chairman Grassley also received an additional letter of support from Law Enforcement Leaders to Reduce Crime & Incarceration.

“Today, our oversized prison population costs taxpayers billions annually and draws law enforcement resources away from apprehending violent offenders. I believe this legislation would free funding and time for officers to focus on targeting and preventing violent crime, making our streets safer,” wrote Ronal Serpas, former Police Superintendent in New Orleans and current Chairman of Law Enforcement Leaders to Reduce Crime & Incarceration.
