WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today said that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded four competitive grants totaling $1,690,172 to Iowa State University and the University of Iowa.
The funds will be distributed as shown below.
· Iowa State University will receive $691,653 from the National Institute on Drug Abuse to help pay for a drug abuse and addiction research program titled, "Rural Youth and Family Competencies Building Projects."
· The University of Iowa will receive $338,519 from the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders to help pay for a biological research project related to deafness and communicative disorders titled, "Biomechanics of the False Vocal Folds."
· The University of Iowa will receive $375,000 from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases to help pay for a research project titled, "Characterization of Pancreatic Disease in a Novel Porcine Cystic Fibrosis Model."
· The University of Iowa will receive $285,000 from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences to help pay for a research project titled, "Mitochondrial Regulation of Apoptosis."
