Next Week's Agenda


Sen. Chuck Grassley will conduct meetings in nine communities in Central and Eastern Iowa throughout the next week. He will meet with Iowans on a variety of issues, including trade with China, reform at the Internal Revenue Service and other economic issues. Sen. Grassley will attend the Hillcrest Home legislative breakfast and open forum in Sumner tomorrow. He will discuss health care and issues affecting the elderly. Sen. Grassley is Chairman of the Special Committee on Aging. The breakfast will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in the Chapel Activity room. Hillcrest Home is located at 915 West First Street.

On Monday, Jan. 12, Sen. Grassley will meet with officials from Fisher Controls in Marshalltown to discuss trade relations with China. Fisher Controls is a division of Emerson Electric Company and produces industrial valves which are sold for process industries. Fisher Controls is located at 1702 Governor Road. Sen. Grassley will tour the facility and meet with officials from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., and he will take questions from the press from 10:30 to 10:45 a.m.

Also on Monday, Sen. Grassley will attend a portion of the Internal Revenue Service's taxpayer "Problem Solving Day" in the Federal Building in Des Moines. At Grassley's request, IRS Commissioner Charles O. Rossotti will also attend the event in Des Moines. Hosting the event will be Director of the IRS Midwest District, Robert Brazzil.

From 12:00 noon until 8:00 p.m., service at Problem Solving Day will be provided by IRS representatives on the fourth floor of the federal building located at 210 Walnut Street. Taxpayers with questions will be directed to the proper locations when they enter the Federal Building. Grassley, Rossotti and Brazzil will be available for questions from the media at 1:15 p.m. in a designated press room on the fourth floor.

From 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sen. Grassley will visit the Walnut Creek National Wildlife Refuge Prairie Learning Center in Prairie City. He will be available on site for questions from the local media immediately following the tour until 5:15 p.m. The refuge is located at 9981 Pacific Street.

Sen. Grassley will end the day by attending and speaking at the Annual Grinnell Rotary Club Farmer's Night. The dinner will take place at the Elk's Lodge which is located at 720 3rd Street in Grinnell.

On Tuesday morning, Sen. Grassley will visit with members of the Iowa County Farm Bureau about agriculture, tax and trade issues. The breakfast meeting will take place from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. at the Farm Bureau office located at 212 W. State Street in Williamsburg. Sen. Grassley will be available on site for questions from the press between 8:30 and 8:45 p.m.

From 9:45 to 11:00 a.m. on Jan. 13, Sen. Grassley will tour the Cedar Rapids Police Station and Joint Communications Agency. Grassley attended the dedication of the new facility on May 16, 1997. Following the tour, Sen. Grassley will travel to Vinton where he will attend the Noon Kiwanis Club lunch. The lunch will be held at the Firemen's Club room located at 109 E 2nd Street. Sen. Grassley will be available for questions from the press on site between 1:00 and 1:15 p.m. And the last event on Tuesday for Sen. Grassley will be an open forum with the Delaware County Farm Bureau members. The forum will take place from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m at the Delaware County Farm Bureau office at 115 E. Delaware in Manchester. Sen. Grassley will again be available on site for questions from the press immediately following the meeting until 3:30 p.m.
