WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley announced today that the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration has awarded two grants totaling $1,656,600 to Coralville and the University of Iowa.
“This funding is intended to increase the safety and efficiency of public transportation in these communities,” Grassley said.
The funds will be distributed as follows:
• Coralville will receive $656,600 for the construction of the Coralville Intermodal Facility
• The University of Iowa will receive $1,000,000 for the purchase of three buses and a replacement diesel engine
Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants from the federal government. The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity administering the funds.
