Pentagon credit cards

Today the Pentagon announced the results of the task force it created in March in response to reports of government credit card abuse by defense workers and military personnel. Sen. Chuck Grassley, who has worked to expose credit card abuse by some Department of Defense workers and urged Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld to take action, made the following comment on today's announcement.

"Secretary Rumsfeld is on our side. He's trying to solve the problem instead of making excuses. That's a rare thing for a Secretary of Defense. Several months ago, he created the Charge Card Task Force to clean up the mess. Today, the task force made its recommendations. These recommendations are aimed at holding employees accountable for misuse and abuse of their cards. The proposed rules will make them pay their bills on time. This is a giant step in the right direction. The momentum is good, but we still have a ways to go before we can claim victory."
