President Bush Signs Into Law Comprehensive Energy Bill

Sen. Chuck Grassley today released the following comment after President George Bush signed into law a comprehensive energy bill. Grassley was the lead architect of the tax provisions of the bill which include incentives for alternative sources of energy such as biodiesel, biomass, ethanol, and wind. It also includes a Renewable Fuels Standard which mandates that 7.5 billion gallons of renewable fuels be used in the nation’s fuel supply annually by 2012.

Here is Grassley’s comment.

"The President’s signature today on a comprehensive energy plan is an important step in helping alleviate domestic energy shortages and insulating the United States from the Middle East-dominated oil supply. Renewable energy conserves existing natural resources and protects the environment. Iowans have already found ways to do just this. They have taken extraordinary efforts to diversify the state’s economy and find creative ways to extract a greater return from corn, soybeans, biomass and other natural resources found in our state."
