Presidential Appointment of Iowan Tom Dorr

Sen. Chuck Grassley issued the following comment regarding President Bush's appointment today of Iowan Tom Dorr to serve as the USDA Undersecretary of Rural Development.

"I'm glad to see an Iowan get a high-level position at the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Tom Dorr is a progressive farmer who has worked hard to harness technology and improve agricultural operations in an increasingly competitive world market. Tom's been a strong advocate for value-added agriculture. He has vision and in not afraid to try new approaches. These traits are crucial for successful rural development. The Undersecretary of Rural Development needs to be someone who will think outside the box and embrace innovative ideas and technology to improve family farmers' competitiveness, as well as the quality of life for people who choose to live in rural communities across the country."
