Sen. Chuck Grassley, ranking member of the Committee on Finance, on May 7 wrote to the American National Red Cross to better understand how it intends to deliver disaster relief, particularly "9-11" monetary relief, judiciously and with due speed to qualified recipients. Grassley asked for a response by June 14. Grassley made the following comment on today's Red Cross announcement about revised information for potential donors.
"I look forward to seeing the details of this plan, but these steps sound positive. Giving to a charity isn't a frivolous act. People think hard about how much they can afford and where their money will do the most good. Charities should treat them accordingly. The more transparency from the Red Cross to potential donors, the better. Transparency instills public confidence."
