Sen. Chuck Grassley today made the following comment after the Base Closure and Realignment Commission’s first day of hearings.
"Today’s hearings brought mixed results for the Quad Cities area. The good news is that nearly 400 jobs will be coming to the Arsenal. I’m disappointed, though, that the Commission today did not see the benefits laid out by the Quad Cities in keeping more than 1000 jobs at the Arsenal. The Quad Cities area made a clear case for keeping many of the jobs and facilities at the Arsenal. According to our calculations moving TACOM to Detroit will not save the Defense Department any money. In fact, it will actually cost more in the long-term. The Commission seemed to forget one of the basic guidelines they were to follow."
