"I'm pleased to see that USDA has developed a program to take StarLink corn out of circulation by purchasing corn containing the Cry9C protein from seed companies. It's also a relief to me and many corn growers that because of the relatively small amount of seed involved--it 's been estimated to be less than one percent of the seed corn available for 2001 planting--this action won't affect the price or the availability of seed corn this year.
"I have expressed to USDA and seed corn company representatives in the past that this season's seed needs to be thoroughly examined so that farmers aren't forced to go through the confusion we faced last fall. Farmer's have the right to know what they're buying. As a grain farmer myself, I want to know exactly what I'm buying and planting on my farm."
