Sen. Chuck Grassley today voted to increase federal funds for veterans programs, especially medicalcare. Sen. Grassley supported an amendment to the annual spending bill for veterans that added$600 million to the original proposal adopted by the Senate. The total figure approved -- $19billion -- is $1.7 billion more than that sought by President Clinton.
Here is a comment from Sen. Grassley regarding the veterans' appropriations bill for fiscal 2001.
Increasing the overall funding level should help meet the challenges facing VA Network 14, whichprovides health care services to Iowa veterans and maintains vital services to special needs veterans. The request made by the President was woefully short of what is needed. We must make sure thateligible veterans get the treatment they need in Iowa, both on an outpatient and inpatient basis. I castmy vote to ensure that the VA continues to offer cost-effective, quality health care services for ournation's veterans."
