WASHINGTON - Senator Chuck Grassley today said that workers in West Union are eligible to apply for Trade Adjustment Assistance and Alternative Trade Adjustment Assistance.
"This assistance will help provide training and new skills to the workers at Atwood Mobile Products so they can get back on their feet and compete for new jobs in the future," Grassley said.
Workers from Atwood Mobile Products in West Union who totally or partially lose their jobs on or after January 20, 2009 through two years from the date of certification are eligible to apply for adjustment assistance. The workers are currently under an existing trade adjustment assistance and alternative trade adjustment assistance certification that will expire on January 19, 2009.
Workers can access these benefits by going to the local one-stop career center. The closest career center can be found by visiting www.servicelocator.org and entering the zip code.
The Trade Adjustment Assistance Program is a federal program that provides aid to workers who lose their jobs or whose hours of work and wages are reduced as a result of increased imports. The Trade Adjustment Assistance program offers a variety of benefits and reemployment services to help unemployed workers prepare for and obtain suitable employment. Workers may be eligible for training, job search and relocation allowances, income support, and other reemployment services.
Alternative Trade Adjustment Assistance provides assistance for workers over the age of 50 and where retraining may not be appropriate.
