WASHINGTON – Eleven U.S. senators signed a letter led by Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa today asking Senate appropriators to block the use of funding to the Education Department to promote the Common Core education standards.  The senators wrote a letter asking for appropriations legislative language “to restore state decision-making and accountability with respect to state academic content standards.”

     In addition to Grassley, senators signing the letter are: Sens. Pat Roberts, Mike Lee, Ted Cruz, Thad Cochran, John Barrasso, Rand Paul, Tom Coburn, James Inhofe, Deb Fischer and Mike Enzi.  The letter went to Sen. Tom Harkin, chairman, and Sen. Jerry Moran, ranking member, Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, Senate Appropriations Committee.
