WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today said that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded two competitive grants totaling $1,236,385 to the University of Iowa.
The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute awarded $1,205,390 to the university, for lung disease research.
The National Institute of General Medical Sciences awarded $30,995 to the university, for pharmacology, physiology and biological chemistry research.
Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants from the federal government. The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
