$165,000 to University of Iowa

WASHINGTON – Chuck Grassley today announced that the U.S. Department of Education has awarded $165,000 in congressionally directed spending to the University of Iowa.

The University of Iowa will use the funds to establish the National Institute for Twice-Exceptionality at the Belin-Blank Center for Gifted Education and Talent Development, which will serve as a national resource for gifted students who have one or more disabilities and a training center for parents, educators, counselors and psychologists.

Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants and loans from the federal government.  The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
