WASHINGTON- Senator Chuck Grassley today said that the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture has awarded a $125,000 grant to Iowa State University in Ames through the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative.
“This funding will help continue a tradition of outstanding agricultural research done by Iowa State University,” Grassley said.
Iowa State University will use the money to help pay for a project titled, “Integrating Soil Water Flowpaths and the Nitrogen Cycle.”
The Agriculture and Food Research Initiative provides funding for research that addresses key problems of national, regional and multi-state importance in sustaining all components of agriculture.
Each year, thousands of local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants and loans from the federal government. The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
