$157,500 to University of Iowa from U.S. Department of Education


WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today said that the U.S. Department of Education has awarded two grants totaling $157,500 to the University of Iowa through the Undergraduate International Studies and Foreign Language program.

 

"These funds will help the University of Iowa offer improved courses for undergraduate students in international studies and foreign languages," Grassley said.

 

The U.S. Department of Education will distribute the funds as described below.

 

·        The University of Iowa will receive $82,500 to help expand on- and off-campus learning opportunities in South Asian studies for undergraduates.

·        The University of Iowa will receive $75,000 to help design a program of on-campus and study abroad courses for undergraduates with an intensive experience in learning about the language and culture in East Africa.  The program will utilize the university's experience in teaching Kiswahili and East Africa studies.

 

According to the U.S. Department of Education, the Undergraduate International Studies and Foreign Language program provides grants to strengthen and improve undergraduate instruction in international studies and foreign languages.
